Hair Donation

Friday, we had a special guest come in to talk to us from Ottawa Hair Donation.  Helen came to tell us about one of our classmates who donated her hair on Sunday to makes wigs for children who have lost their hair.  Kaylie told us all about how she thought it was a good idea and nice thing to do for someone who needs it.  Check out the website above for information.  If you would like to make a donation through Kaylie page, please click HERE .  Don't forget to check out the St. Anne website for the tweet about the visit.  Special thanks to Helen, Kaylie, and her mom Julie!  We are so proud of you Kaylie!!  Here are some before and after shots of her long hair and her cute new hair do :)

Earth Day Activities

Here of some pictures of our Eath Day activites.  The kinders spent the morning planted beans and learning about taking care of plants. We also talked a lot about reusing today.  We looked at different items and brainstormed ways we could use them again.  The kinders had great ideas! A lot of them involved googly eyes!  We also  had 2 recycled art centres. At one,  we reused paper (We always have a recycled paper bin to pick from) and  at the other we turned paper cups, string and pastic bags into parachutes!  They were so popular we couldn't finish then all today. Enjoy!

Some of the pictures are not clear because the kinders decided they wanted to leave the lights out all afternoon to save electricity!

Spring Cleaning!

We have sent home the kinders blankets once again to be washed.  Please help us with some Spring cleaning by giving their blankets a good wash this Easter weekend.  Thank you for your help and have a safe and fun long weekend!!

A Special Visitor!!

Hippity, Hoppity, Easter's on its Way!!!

Our kinders are very excited about Easter!  We continue to work on adding and subtracting, graphing, counting, writing, and word families. Today we added an Easter feel to the room with some new activities.  Take a look at what we did today!

At the math table we used jellybeans to work on tally marks and graphing!

Here is our write the room Easter edition.  Easter words are posed around the room.  The kinder must find them and write the word on their clipboard.  It's always a big hit!

This is what we were searching for this morning

 

Another word family game.  Half of the egg had the word family on it (ex. ed) and the other half had the letters.  When you turned the egg around it made a new word each time.  Here the kinder is writing the words she made using the eggs.



New Drama Centre!

Introducing our new dramatic play centre....Kindergarten Construction Corp!  The centre is now home to our big blocks, a planning centre with donated blueprints (Thanks Mrs. Meredith's Dad!) and a white board for designing, and tools!  Today some of the kinders designed and built a rocket ship!!  Take a look at some pictures below....

Please check you kinders mailbag today for some important notes!!!  Also, there is a kindergarten prayer card with our new morning prayer on it.  Over the past few weeks we have been practicing and we are ready to bring our card home to share this beautiful prayer just in time for Easter!

April scholastic orders are going home tonight!  Please note the quick turnaround date.  They are due back by Monday in hopes that the books will be in by Easter.  Fingers crossed!

2D Shapes

This week we are taking a small break from 3D shapes to brush up on 2D.  We've been exploring and discussing shapes at circles and at learning centres today.  At circle we learned all the different ways to sort shapes. We sorted by shape and colour.  Also, at centres we worked on funky shape mats and we got very creative!  See below for some pictures!

Living and Nonliving Science

Last week at the science table we learned about living and nonliving things and.  We looked at animals, people, minerals, toys and plants and brainstormed why we thought they were living or nonliving.  After, we went through them again to see what ALL living things has in commom.  We discovered that all living things breathe, move on thier own, grow, need food and water, and reproduce.  Here of some pictures of our activity where we picked an object and answered questions to see if it was living or nonliving.  We are becoming science pros!



There is no wrong answer when we brainstorm!  After we were done we looked at the items again and crossed off answers as we went ex.  Humans are living but we dont have paws so you don't need paws to be living.
