Gobble, gobble, gobble

Our Fall inquiry has extended into turkeys just in time for Thanksgiving. The kinders have been really interested in learning about Thanksgiving this week from some of our story books.  Today we talked about turkeys, being thankful and learned a lot of French thanksgiving words. We also made French Thanksgiving cards, drew turkeys by tracing our hands and sang a great song called Albuquerque Turkey.  Here's the link to our song and some pictures of our creations! Sink or Float: Pumpkin Edition

Yesterday, as we were getting ready for home time, B. asked Mrs. Meredith if a pumpkin would sink or float!  It was a wonderful inquiry question that we got to explore this morning.  We learned about asking questions, predictions and observations as we used some of our fall objects in our sick or float game.  Our first predictions was for the pumpkin.  Most of the kinders guessed that it would sink because it was heavy. E. justified this by adding "when something is so heavy it's going to sink".
Next we predicted what 2 of our gourds would To.  The consensus was that they would both sink.  We also made a prediction on our dried corn.  C predicted "It will float because its lighter than the pumpkin".  After we made our prediction we got to work testing them.  Here are some pictures of our experiment! To our surprise everything FLOATED! Stay turned in the next couple of weeks while we explore why our pumpkin floated!  Here are some pictures of our experiment!
