Monday Afternoon....

Even thought it was too cold to go outside, we kept ourselves very busy with board game learning centres!  We played Candyland, number bingo, snakes and ladders, twister and air hockey!  CH said "it's like a pj party in here".  EP said he was having so much fun he didn't want to go home!! Hopefully we can top it tomorrow!  Here are some pictures of our afternoon.

Candy Cane Science

Today we are seeing what happens when we put a candy cane in hot water, and cold water.

What will happen??
Hot water:

CH, WT, MA- "the candy cane will melt"

Cold water:

ME- "the candy cane will sink"

What's happening?

CH- "the colour is melting away"
WT- "it's getting hairy"
EN- "it has no colour"

After a few minutes.....
MA-"the red is coming back!"
EN- "it will get smaller, then disappear"
ME "the cold will stay white, and the hot will stay red"
MA- "the hot water melts faster"

why did the candy cane in the hot water melt faster?

WT- "because it's super hot and makes the Candycane melt"
CH- "heat makes things melt"

This experiment taught us how things dissolves in hot and cold water.  It took 10 minutes for our candy cane to dissolve in the hot water and about 30 minutes for the cold.  See below for pictures of the process ......

Candycane has been very sneaky the past two days.  He is trying to stay hidden but we always find him!  Take a look!
