Happy Halloween!

Just a quick reminder about Halloween candy...

If you are sending candy in for an after lunch treat please be aware of what is in the product.  Please make sure you are not sending anything with nuts or anything that MAY contain nuts.  Sometimes in all the excitement the kinders picks something that we can't let them eat here.  Thanks for your cooperation!!
Have a safe and fun Halloween night!

Pumpkin Carving!

We've been busy carving our big pumpkin yesterday and today.  We researched eyes, mouths and noses and had a class vote on which ones we wanted to carve into our pumpkin.  Yesterday we cleaned out the seeds and "guts" but only a few friends were brave enough to stick their hand inside.  Today we did all the carving and enjoyed lunch by the light of our jack-o-lantern.  Stay tuned next week to see all the fun stuff we do with our pumpkin seeds! Happy Halloween!

Exploring Weight

We've been learning a lot about the words heavy and light at the science table which took us to a weight conversation.  We already knew how tall our pumpkins was and now we wanted to see how much it weighed.  We used our predicting skills to guess how many pounds our pumpkin was then weighed it using a digital scale.  However, we discovered that the pumpkin was too light for the scale to read so we had to get creative! Take a look at the process below
Making a guess

Pass the pumpkin

We recorded our answers to compare them!

hmmm, our scale is not working!

Maybe the pumpkin is too light!

We weighed M with the pumpkin and without...

then used our math skills to subtract (With a little help from Mrs. Meredith and Mrs. C!)

Measuring...

Our kinders have been really interested in measuring in the past week.  It all started with measuring how tall our pumpkin was!  Since then we've been practicing measuring by seeing how many Popsicle sticks and how many pumpkins we are high. See below for some pictures.

Saunder's Farm

Our kinders are super excited about our field trip to Saunder's Farm on Friday.  We've been busy preparing this week and are excited for a great day.  We just checked the weather and it looks like it is going to be a nice sunny day with a high, yes high, of 6 degrees.  Make sure you dress your kinder for this weather.  We are aking for the kinders to come in warm clothes, warm coats, hats, mittens and rubber boots/ old shoes (in case it gets muddy!).  We will be spending most of the day outdoors and we want everyone to be comfortable and happy!  Thanks for your cooperation!

Dance, Dance

Last week we were lucky enough to have some friends from the The Loft School of Art and Dance come in for a workshop and teach is some fun dance moves.  We had a wonderful time dancing, pretending and posing.  Our big finish was dancing to ABBA'S Dancing queen.  Ask your kinder and maybe they will give give you a sample of our performance.  Here are some pictures!

Halloween Guessing Game

Last week we did a spooky guessing game.  We had a jar of eyeballs, bats, spiders and creepy crawlers and the kinders needed to guess how many we're in the jar.  We wrote our answers down then came together as a class to count and see who has the closest estimate. See below for pictures!
