Polar Bear Science

This week we have been learning about how polar bears adapt to live in the arctic.  We learned that polar bears have a thick layer of fat called blubber.  This protects them from the harsh, icy waters.  To show this to the kinders we made bowls or icy water.  The kinders placed thier 2 index fingers into the bowls and had to tell us which on was colder.  We left one finger bare and on the other we put a  layer of fat (Crisco).  We discovered that the finger with the fat stayed warmer than our bare fingers.  It was a great way to make the connection with polar bears and how they stay warm!  See some the pictures below :)
